Busy, Busy, Busy

After a long morning of trashing the Monopoly money and game pieces, up ending the Battleship box, dumping the dominoes out and whacking his sister on the head, Baby decides he needs a snack. Having only been absent a minute or two, I come back to the kitchen to find this

garlic bananas, anyone?

Did I mention it's only 10:00 am? Help? Please?

Actually Baby maybe on to something....

Jennifer Brennan, author of "Tradewinds & Coconuts" has a wonderful recipe for Shrimp in a Garlic, Banana and Chile Sauce from Guam.

Place a large, non-reactive frying pan over medium-high heat and pour in the oil. When a haze forms over the oil, carefully add all the shrimp. Stir, turn and fry them for less than a minute, or until they change color. Immediately remove the shrimp from the pan (with tongs) and set them aside for use later.

Reduce the heat to medium and stir in the onion. Stir-fry for about 2 minutes or until it is softened. Add the garlic and ginger and continue to saute for about 1 minute.

Stir in the pepper flakes and tomato paste. Continue to cook, stirring, for about 2 minutes. Now add the water. When the mixture returns to the simmer, add the vinegar and sugar, and stir to dissolve the sugar. Introduce the mashed banana, stir and reduce the heat to medium-low.

Add the bell pepper and let the mixture cook for about 1 minute, stirring. Season with salt and pepper and return the shrimp to the sauce. When the shrimp are just heated through, transfer the shrimp and sauce to a serving bowl and present immediately. Serve over white rice.

Thanks for the recipe but I'd rather not encourage Baby's activities in the kitchen until he's a bit older (like, say, 18, or so)
